Why Are People Buying Yom Kippur Cards in February? A Look at Unexpected Holiday Shopping Trends

An Unusual Trend in My Zazzle Store

As a designer, I always love to see which of my creations resonate with customers. Recently, I noticed something unexpected: I was selling Yom Kippur greeting cards in February!

At first, I thought it was a random occurrence.  I noticed that on February 10th I had so a Yom Kippur greeting card.  I pondered it for a minute because, Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, is observed in September or October, depending where it falls on the Hebrew calendar.   However, I did not dwell on the purchase.  Two weeks later, I notice that I sold another Yom Kippur card to another customer.  So this really got me thinking- who buys holiday cards out of season, and why?

Why Do People Buy Holiday Cards Months in Advance?

There are several reasons why someone might purchase Yom Kippur cards (or any holiday greeting cards) early:

Early Planners & Organized Buyers – Some people like to prepare well in advance for important holidays, ensuring they have everything ready.

Synagogues & Religious Organizations – Jewish institutions may bulk order Yom Kippur cards for their members and start planning months ahead.

Retailers & Resellers – Small businesses and boutique shops sometimes stock up on unique greeting cards early.

Jewish Expats or International Buyers – Those living outside Jewish-majority communities may buy early to ensure they receive their cards on time.

Personal Remembrance & Reflection – Some customers may use Yom Kippur greeting cards outside of the holiday itself for encouragement, memorials, or special messages.

Collectors & Specialty Buyers – Unique, artistic greeting cards are sometimes bought by collectors or scrapbookers.

How to Find More Customers Like These

If people are searching for Yom Kippur cards in February, it means there’s a hidden demand for Jewish holiday cards year-round. Here’s how I plan to attract more customers like the two who bought my card early:

1. Expanding My Jewish Holiday Collection

Since customers are shopping for Yom Kippur cards earlier than expected, I’ll be adding more:

  • Rosh Hashanah Cards (Jewish New Year)
  • Hanukkah Greeting Cards
  • Passover Cards
  • Shabbat & Encouragement Cards

I want to make sure that whether someone is buying early or last-minute, they can find the perfect card in my store.

2. Optimizing Keywords for Year-Round Searches

Most people search for Yom Kippur cards in August and September, but the fact that some are buying in February means I need to keep my listings visible all year long. Here are some keywords I’ll be using:

  • Jewish Holiday Greeting Cards
  • Yom Kippur Card Anytime
  • Jewish Encouragement Cards
  • Synagogue Greeting Cards
  • Custom Yom Kippur Card

By keeping evergreen keywords in my product descriptions, I can make sure my cards show up whenever customers are searching—even if it’s months before the holiday.

3. Creating Content That Attracts Early Buyers

Blogging and social media are powerful tools to reach early shoppers who may not even realize they can buy holiday cards now. Some content ideas I’m planning:

Blog Post: “Yom Kippur Blessing Cards Anytime”
Pinterest Pins: “Beautiful Yom Kippur Cards You Can Personalize”

By educating customers and showcasing my designs outside of peak season, I can reach more people who want to shop ahead.

Final Thoughts: A Lesson in Year-Round Demand

Seeing my Yom Kippur cards sell in February was a wake-up call: people don’t always shop on a traditional schedule. Whether they are early planners, retailers, or international buyers, there is a hidden demand for Jewish holiday cards beyond their expected season.

If you love sending meaningful, personalized greetings, my store offers a beautiful selection of Jewish holiday cards year-round. Whether it’s February, September, or December, you can always find a special card to share with loved ones.
